Amazon is set to begin trials for a quick commerce service in India, aiming to deliver groceries within 15 minutes or less. The U.S.-based e-commerce giant announced on Tuesday that it will compete in India’s rapidly growing quick commerce sector, where companies like Zomato’s Blinkit and Swiggy’s Instamart already promise delivery times as short as 10 minutes.

This move marks Amazon’s entry into a market where speed and convenience are key, as it seeks to provide customers with faster deliveries of essential goods like groceries and more. Samir Kumar, Country Manager for Amazon India, emphasized that the company’s strategy would focus on offering the largest selection, the fastest speeds, and the best value for customers across all regions of India.

India's quick commerce industry is booming, with an expected growth to over $6 billion in annual sales in 2024, up from just $100 million in 2020, according to research firm Datum Intelligence. This growth is indicative of the increasing demand for rapid deliveries, making it a lucrative market for companies like Amazon.

Amazon’s announcement follows similar moves by competitors. Earlier this year, Flipkart, owned by Walmart, piloted its own quick commerce service in select cities with promises of 10-minute grocery deliveries. Additionally, Reliance, led by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, has begun trials of a 10-30 minute delivery service in the Mumbai area.
