The Biden administration has unveiled another significant arms aid package for Ukraine, valued at $500 million, Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced on Thursday. This latest package comes as part of the U.S. government's ongoing support to bolster Ukraine's defense against Russia’s invasion.

The new military assistance includes vital ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) and High-speed Anti-radiation missiles (HARMs), which are critical in countering Russian artillery and missile strikes.

White House spokesperson John Kirby emphasized that the U.S. intends to keep providing such support to Ukraine until the final days of President Biden's administration.

This announcement follows a $725 million aid package sent just 10 days ago, which included missiles, ammunition, and anti-personnel mines. As President Biden’s term nears its end in January, with Republican President-elect Donald Trump set to take office, the U.S. is keen to ensure that Ukraine is equipped to resist Russia’s aggressive tactics.

The $500 million package is part of a broader strategy to keep Ukraine well-supported throughout the conflict. With the ability to draw on the Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA), the U.S. can continue to expedite military assistance from its existing stockpiles, bypassing the need for congressional approval. As of Thursday, there remains $5.6 billion worth of resources available under this authority.

As the conflict intensifies, Russian forces have continued to make significant advances in eastern Ukraine, particularly in the Donbas region, which is strategically important. Russian air strikes have also targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, complicating the situation as the harsh winter approaches.

This additional support from the U.S. is expected to play a crucial role in helping Ukraine maintain its defenses amid these challenging circumstances.
